As the name implies, the original policy forms were derived from ocean marine insurance policies.  Since the property was not transported overseas, the term inland marine was coined.

The inland marine policies are used primarily for two reasons:   Other property policies do not adequately cover the items, such as limited off premises coverage or care, custody and control issues. The inland marine policies can have broader coverage at a reasonable price.

The two biggest mistakes to be on the lookout when purchasing a floater policy are:
Make sure you are insuring the perils that concern you.  For instance, if you want theft coverage, be sure the peril of theft is included. The majority of inland marine policies have a schedule or list of items covered.

Therefore, make sure all of the items you want covered are listed with an appropriate coverage amount.  There is a sample equipment schedule in the forms section of the website.   We hope this information has been helpful.  For more information, contact us at your convenience.
